At the clinic we're able to run a urinalysis (urine test) for your pet. This involves getting a urine sample from your pet, most commonly by the “free catch” method – using a container to collect a sample as your animal squats or cocks their leg to urinate. A urinalysis is used to help diagnose or keep an eye on a range of conditions, most commonly cystitis, bladder infections, bladder stones, kidney disease and diabetes.
In-clinic cytology is used frequently to help diagnose tumours, lumps, and skin problems (e.g. mange, ringworm, infection), and to examine urine, faecal or blood samples and check for parasites. We can also perform immediate glucose testing for diabetic or hypoglycaemic patients.
In-house testing, with a backup lab close by
We run a full in-house laboratory service (ABAXIS), with backup at Gribbles laboratory nearby and courier collection twice a day – meaning faster results than even your own DHB provider in many cases. Friendly pathologists are available to help interpret results and pinpoint problems found in your pet.
Why same-visit results matter
For a genuinely unwell pet, or one with a chronic condition like diabetes or kidney disease being monitored over time, waiting days for results can mean waiting days to start (or adjust) treatment. Where a test can be run in-house, we do it in-house, so your vet can talk you through results and next steps before you've even left the building.

Please do not go to the emergency clinic if it is not urgent/life threatening. (Runny eyes/nose, coughing, limping, itching etc can wait until the morning to be seen by our day vet)
